Free Mountain Road Shuttles

Hop on our free mountain road shuttles. Perfect for those who haven’t driven on a mountain road before, want to save on fuel mileage, or simply need nap time! No booking is required, park at the car parks at the bottom of the mountain roads and hop on the next available shuttle.

Shuttle times can be affected by adverse weather affecting road conditions. Transport is free and first come, first served. The shuttle may suspend uphill transport if the service is deemed at capacity.

Drive times can vary depending on conditions. The Cardrona mountain road is 14km and unsealed with three car parks around the base building. There is also Valley View car park which is located before you reach the top of the mountain road and skips some of the drive. Please note Valley View is only suitable for intermediate skiers. For your safety, please always carry chains when driving the mountain roads.  Weather and road conditions can change quickly.

  • From Queenstown CBD  - 59km / 1 - 1.5 hrs

  • From Wānaka - 35km / 40 - 45 mins

Drive times can vary depending on conditions. Treble Cone has a 7.5km long unsealed mountain road with parking at the very top, outside of the base building. For your safety, please always carry chains when driving the mountain roads.  Weather and road conditions can change quickly.

Parking

Driving to Cardrona or Treble Cone can be hassle-free while delivering incredible views! You’ll find a car park at the bottom of both mountain roads where it’s easy to leave your car and use the free shuttle to hop out at the top of the mountains at the base buildings. Both of the mountain roads are two-way traffic and can be affected by snowfall, so always carry chains and learn how to use them before you travel here.

You’ll drive up and over the range, before reaching the small village of Cardrona, featuring a historic hotel (pub) and quaint general store. Continue driving through Cardrona village centre before reaching the turnoff and signposted Cardrona Alpine Resort.

Directions to Treble Cone from Queenstown Airport: Drive towards Cromwell but turn off at Crown Range Road. You’ll drive up and over the range, before reaching the small village of Cardrona, featuring a historic hotel (pub) and quaint general store. Continue driving through Cardrona village centre reaching Wānaka. Once you reach the lakefront, take a left and follow the road all the way past Glendhu Bay before you reach the turnoff for Treble Cone.

If you can’t catch the bus and don’t have a car, you can book a private transfer from Queenstown or Wānaka and be delivered directly to the base buildings at Cardrona or Treble Cone. We work with Yello, Wānaka Transfers, and Wānaka Ski Concierge to provide a seamless experience.
