To achieve lightweight warmth without depending on a heavy jacket, consider a three-layer approach that adapts to any weather or terrain. By combining a base layer, mid layer, and outer layer, you can effectively regulate your body temperature—staying cool during activity bursts and cosy when you take it easy.
The icebreaker Warmth System
Consider the conditions in which you plan to use the products and let yourself be guided by our warmth system: the higher the icebreaker number, the warmer you'll be!
For ski field conditions we recommend:
Layering the icebreaker way.
Inspired by hardy merino sheep, who thrive in scorching summers and freezing winters, we've adapted the incredible natural engineering of their fleece into a system of layers that support your body’s heating and cooling system.
icebreaker’s modular system of layers are engineered to work together like a single garment. Each product feature is purposefully designed to seamlessly integrate with the other layers.
Base layer - The next to skin layer for moisture-managing performance. Odour resistant. Temperature Regulation. Soft and Comfortable.
Our Merino top and bottom base layers are designed to regulate your body temperature and quickly move moisture away from your skin so you can stay warm and dry regardless of how active your adventures are.

Mid layer - The insulating layer for cooler temperatures. Warmth.
The versatile layer for unpredictable weather and varying activities, easy to put on and take off as conditions change. Our insulating mid layers have a variety of technical features for warmth, breathability and comfort during your activities in nature.
Outer layer - The final layer for protection from the elements. Water Repellant. Wind Resistant.
The final layer for protection from the elements. From hard-working jackets to versatile vests, our outer layers protect against wind and rain while still allowing your body to move and breathe freely.

Accessories
Don't forget the accessories. They are an essential piece to complete your layering system and keep your extremities warm as you move through the cold. Beanies, headbands, and gloves designed to provide comfort and warmth where needed.
Underwear
Start the day with nature next to your skin. Our boxers, briefs, bra and singlets are soft, lightweight and breathable, allowing your skin to breathe, for freshness and comfort all day long.
Socks
A good pair of socks can make all the difference to a day on the Slopes. Our natural fibers breathe freely and hug your feet in softness. With anatomical sculpted design and zoned cushioning, our socks are durable and comfortable.

Combining Your Layers:
Different snow sports call for different layering strategies. For endurance activities, choose technical design elements that combine core insulation with zoned heat-dumping. For short bursts of activity in between cooling down, choose layers in heavier weights that will wick moisture away when you sweat but keep you warm in between.
Ski touring: Choose pieces that perform during high-exertion adventures and remain comfortable throughout.
Backcountry adventures: Choose layers that keep you cool during the ascent and warm for the descent.
All-wear, all-mountain, all-use: Choose pieces that provide comfort and warmth for a day on and off-piste.
With these expert tips from Icebreaker, you'll be prepared to layer up for all-day comfort on the mountain, no matter what the conditions throw at you.
